He Is Not Here
He Is Not Here
In the ancient Jewish tradition at a feast, if one is finished eating, the napkin is tossed on the table as a signal to the servants that the place may be cleared and the person will not return to eat anymore. However, if guests plan to return to their place at the table, they will fold the napkin, signaling to the servants that they will return.
John 20:7 refers to “the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.”
After His resurrection, Christ carefully folded the napkin that was about His head as a clear signal to His servants that He would return.
Luke 24:1-6 says: "And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulcher... two men stood by them in shining garments... And they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee."
