I Will Gather You

As a child, I remember watching footage on TV of Yellowstone National Park burning in the fires of 1988.  I remember seeing animals sprinting to escape the towering flames, and firefighters working endlessly to extinguish the fires. Over 790,000 acres of the park burned before the fire was contained 

Where massive trees climbing toward heaven once graced the forests, charred remains now lay in smoldering heaps. It is said that a forest ranger walked through a section of the forest after the fire died out. Walking among the fallen trees and the scorched earth, the previously vibrant forest was now a hellscape as far as he could see. 

Then he came upon it. A bird on the ground as a statue of ash. Why did this bird not fly away from the flames, he thought. He nudged the burnt bird with his walking stick. The bird crumbled into fine ash as tiny chicks scattered out. This little mother bird had endured the torture of being burned alive in order to save her young. 

Luke 13:34 says, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem… how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!”

Just as that mother bird sacrificed herself, Christ has endured all things for those who will come to Him. "I Will Gather You" is a reminder that He stands ready to protect you.
